BANGKOK, 21 October 2011 – The Royal Thai Navy is offering floating houses to flood victims.
The raft house, which covers an area of 3 x 6 meters, has one bathroom and can accommodate up to 15 people. It can also be affixed to a raft of the same kind.
The Royal Thai Navy plans to build at least 10 raft houses a day to meet the growing demand. Construction of the floating houses requires 200-liter oil drums, metal sheets and wood boards, rubber sheets and ply wood. Donation of construction materials is welcome. The Royal Thai Navy has also set up a disaster mitigation unit in the compound of Ayutthaya City Hall which will remain there to provide aid to flood-hit people until the situation returns to normal.
