BANGKOK, 28 June 2012 – The country’s telecom regulator has decided to fine the broadcaster of Thailand’s Got Talent reality TV show for its presentation of inappropriate content on public television.
National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) Secretary-General Thakorn Tantasit said on Wednesday that the commission has resolved to fine Channel 3 500,000 baht for broadcasting what it considered inappropriate.
Earlier this month, millions of viewers of the Thailand’s Got Talent show were stunned by a candidate who danced and painted on the stage with her top completely off.
The scene of public nudity instantly became the talk of the town and brought the Culture Ministry and the NBTC into the picture, with the producers unsurprisingly slammed by the public.
Mr. Thakorn said that the fine collected from Channel 3 will be sent to a public fund for future social development works.
