BANGKOK, 26 September 2014 The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) has designated 250 people as members of the National Reform Council (NRC) and the name list will be presented for royal endorsement in due course. Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha, in his capacity as NCPO Chief, today chaired a meeting of the NCPO to conduct the final selection process for the NRC members. After the session, the premier noted that he knew only about 10 percent of the 250 appointees and their relations were not personal.
He was adamant the results had not been prearranged, nor were they derived from collusion.
The Prime Minister said the NCPO had allowed full authority and freedom for all the nomination committees in naming candidates they considered suitable for NRC seats and the selection process had been handled with prudence and fairness from the beginning to finish. Judging from the roster, Gen Prayut assured that the NRC members would be able to take care of all areas of reform as they came from different backgrounds and professions, ranging from academics and state officials to private operators, agriculturists and media members.
The qualifications of all NRC members are currently being re-examined by the Secretary-General of the Cabinet before their names are submitted to His Majesty the King for endorsement by October 2 as planned.
