BANGKOK, 17 September 2014 – The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) has announced its own restructuring in order to better allow it to work alongside the newly-formed government.

The NCPO made known the new structure by issuing its 122nd announcement on Tuesday. In the new structure, General Prayuth Chan-ocha remains the NCPO chief and General Udomdet Sitabut remains the NCPO secretary-general. Some of the newly-appointed NCPO members, such as Somkid Jatusripitak, were formerly advisers to the NCPO.

Air Chief Marshal Prajin Juntong, speaking as one of the NCPO deputy chiefs, said the restructuring was in line with Gen. Prayuth’s earlier mentions that the NCPO will work in tandem with the new government and augment the latter’s work. He said lawyers have also been added as NCPO members so that work can proceed smoothly. ACM Prajin asserted that as a result of the new structure, the role of the NCPO has been diminished.
