SURIN, 2 Feb 2015, Thai Health Promotion Foundation (THPF) yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with 8 universities in the lower Northeastern region on a project to create a network of education institutes against the spreading use of alcohol among university students.
These 8 universities included Vongchavalitkul University, Rajamangala University of Technology Isan Surin Campus, Burirum Rajabhat University, Roi Et Rajabhat University, Surin Rajabhat University, Srisaket Rajabhat University, Ubonratchathani Rajabhat University, and Ubonratchathani University.
Under the MoU, the member universities are to exchange knowledge, ideas, researches, and promotion drives on public level alcohol prevention projects and activities.
The cooperation mainly aims at addressing the problem of restaurants providing easy access to alcoholic beverages to students. The issue is becoming more and more difficult to control as the existing law on the matter is not sufficient to keep alcohol out of the youngsters’ reach. What is more serious is that the number of students lacking conscience against drinking alcoholic beverages is growing, said the THPF.
Alcohol is the leading cause of accidents, brawling, teenage pregnancy, and many others.
