New Bangkok-Vientiane train route ready for trial runs in July

The route starts at Bangkok’s Krung Thep Apiwat Central Terminal and continues to Udon Thani Province and Nong Khai Province, ending at Vientiane’s Khamsavath station.

According to an announcement from Thailand’s Ministry of Transport, Thailand and Laos are set to commence their first railway service between Bangkok and Vientiane, with trial runs scheduled on 13-14 July 2024.



The route starts at Bangkok’s Krung Thep Apiwat Central Terminal and continues to Udon Thani Province and Nong Khai Province, ending at Vientiane’s Khamsavath station.

This railway initiative, a result of the cooperation between the State Railway of Thailand and the Lao National Railways, aims at strengthening tourism and goods transport of the two nations, as well as the connection to China. (MFA)
