BANGKOK, Thailand – Starting September 1, Bangkok’s Traffic and Transport Department, in collaboration with Bangkok Mass Transit System Public Company Limited (BTS), will launch a new fleet of Electric Vehicle (EV) BRT buses on the Sathorn-Ratchaphruek route. The new service will operate daily from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM and will be free for the first two months, until October 31.
The revamped BRT service will include two additional stops: Chan Nuea Road Station (near Chan-Narathiwat Intersection) and Chan Tai Road Station (near Ratchada-Narathiwat Intersection).
These new BRT buses are fully air-conditioned and equipped with low-floor entry, 30 seats, and accessible entrances in the middle of the vehicle on both sides, with an additional front door. The buses are also equipped with automatic fare collection systems onboard, replacing the old ticket purchase system at stations.
BTS won the contract for this project through an electronic bidding process, offering the lowest bid at 465 million baht. The contract spans five years, from 2024 to 2029.
