The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has announced the opening of a new double-track railway along the southern line from Nakhon Pathom to Chumphon. The 421-kilometer track is set to enhance logistical operations and improve safety by allowing trains to travel in opposite directions without delay.

The upgraded line is expected to reduce journey times by up to 90 minutes, making rail travel more appealing to tourists. The new rail route features a bridge across the Mae Klong River in Ratchaburi province and a revamped Hua Hin railway station, which maintains the original architectural style.

The SRT is planning further expansions with dual-track railways in various regions, including the Northeast and North of Thailand, as well as additional stretches in the South. By 2029, Thailand aims to have 2,370 kilometers of dual-track railways, greatly improving the country’s logistics and tourist appeal.

Additionally, the Pha Sadet tunnel, Thailand’s longest rail tunnel, is set to reopen next month after being temporarily closed due to safety concerns over its ventilation system. (NNT)
