The Highways Department has announced that a 77.49-kilometer section of the Bang Pa-in-Nakhon Ratchasima motorway will be open to motorists for free during the New Year holidays. This section of the M6 motorway, extending from Nong Sarai subdistrict in Pak Chong district to the capital city, is designed to help drivers avoid heavy traffic in central Nakhon Ratchasima.

The decision follows instructions from Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, aiming to alleviate congestion on the main roads connecting Bangkok to the North and Northeast regions. The move is part of a broader strategy to facilitate smoother travel during the holiday season.

In response to the Prime Minister’s directive, the department accelerated the installation of street lamps along the finished parts of the motorway. The construction of the motorway is being carried out in several phases.

About 92.588% of the construction work had been completed as of the end of November. The department expects the entire 196-kilometer motorway to be fully operational by late next year, improving road connectivity in the region. (NNT)
