BANGKOK, Thailand – A new regulation on cigarette and tobacco sales in Thailand takes effect on Aug 21, requiring retail vendors to display posters highlighting the dangers of smoking. The Department of Disease Control (DDC) announced that the 7x21cm posters must be visible at all sale points during operating hours. Violators face a maximum fine of 5,000 baht.
The posters, provided by the Public Health Ministry, seek to reduce the number of new smokers, particularly among minors. Vendors can obtain the materials from Excise Department offices nationwide or download them from the DDC website.
The measure is part of the government’s efforts to regulate tobacco use, requiring all sellers to comply to avoid penalties.
