BANGKOK, Thailand – Get ready for the launch of the newly revamped Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, featuring 100% electric buses, starting on September 1. The new BRT service, Sathorn-Ratchapruek, will operate daily from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM, with free rides available for the first two months (September 1 to October 31). The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) invites everyone to familiarize themselves with the new BRT buses before they begin operation.
Key features of the new BRT system include:
-Low-Floor Design: The new buses have a low-floor design, with the entrance and exit at a height of 34 centimeters from the road surface, making it easier and safer for passengers to board and alight. Temporary low-level platforms have been installed at bus stops to accommodate this design.
-Eco-Friendly: These air-conditioned buses run entirely on electric power, helping to reduce air pollution and promote environmentally friendly travel. A total of 23 buses are ready for service.
-Additional Doors: The buses are equipped with two doors on the left side and one door on the right side, enhancing passenger flow.
-Accessibility: Both sides of the buses feature ramps to accommodate wheelchair users, ensuring ease of access.
-Safety: Each bus is equipped with five CCTV cameras to monitor the fare collection area and ensure passenger safety.
-Real-Time Tracking: The buses are fitted with GPS, allowing passengers to track their location via an app. Information screens on board will display real-time location data.
-Passenger Seating: The buses offer 30 standard passenger seats, standing space with handrails, and designated areas for wheelchair users near the doors.
-Cashless Payments: Passengers can pay their fares using Rabbit cards or by scanning QR codes on their mobile phones, as there will be no on-board ticket sales.
-New Stations: Two new stops have been added to the route: Chan Nua Road Station (at the Chan-Narathiwat intersection) and Chan Tai Road Station (at the Ratchada-Narathiwat intersection).
