BANGKOK, 8 May 2015 – Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has assigned the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to invite the governments of Malaysia and Myanmar to a meeting in Bangkok to draw up an action plan against Rohingya trafficking. The meeting is expected to be held some time this month.
The Prime Minister says the Thai Government is determined to crack down on human trafficking, but solutions to such problems require integrated action of governments concerned, their genuine cooperation and continuity of their efforts.
Gen Prayut also asked the public not to consider the ongoing exposure of undocumented Rohingya in Thailand an effort to discredit the government. On the contrary, he said it showed the government’s serious attempt to crack down on the transnational crime. Information support from the public is necessary for the government to achieve the goal, Gen Prayut added.
