The Cabinet approved a draft ministerial regulation to extend the operating hours of entertainment venues, nightclubs and bars until 4 a.m. in five tourist destinations including Bangkok, Phuket, Chonburi (Pattaya), Chiang Mai, and Koh Samui in Surat Thani.

The new rule is planned to be implemented on December 15.

Deputy spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office Kenika Oonjit said this regulation, proposed by the Ministry of Interior aims to stimulate tourism and the economy, especially after overcoming the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

There is urgent need to expand operating hours of entertainment venues within hotels, according to hotel law and those located in Bangkok, Phuket, Chonburi, Chiang Mai, and Koh Samui.

This extension is expected to consistently boost tourism and economic activities, providing continuous income for the country, business operators, and residents in these areas, she said.

Other areas wishing to extend operating hours of entertainment venues until 4 a.m. should comply with the announcements made by provincial authorities, adhering to the criteria and conditions set by the Ministry of the Interior. (TNA)
