BANGKOK, 14 April 2015 (NNT)
The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) has expressed confidence that the
constitution drafting process will proceed according to the country’s reform roadmap,
while some members have reservations regarding the selection of Senators under the
new system.
NLA First Vice-President Surachai Liengboonlertchai spoke regarding the 30-
day timeframe after April 26, where the Cabinet, the National Council for Peace
and Order and the NLA will be able to give its suggestions regarding the draft
constitution.
Mr. Surachai said that he will chair a committee that will summarize input from
NLA members and the public, and then forward them to the Constitution Drafting
Committee (CDC).
The NLA Vice-President revealed that preliminary opinions revealed contention over
the selection process of Senators under the new system.
As for a public referendum on the constitution, he said the NLA will wait for
consensus from the CDC before taking an official stance.
