Bangkok – The National Legislative Assembly has postponed a review of the newly-elected Election Commission.

The NLA had been scheduled to deliberate the nomination of seven new members of the EC and to set up a new committee to check each commissioner’s background and behavioral records.

However, NLA member Wallop Tangkananurak told the Assembly that there continue to be doubts over the legality of the nomination by the Supreme Court due to the secret ballot process to elect two candidates to join the EC.

Wallop asked the NLA President to send a formal inquiry to the Supreme Court to clarify if their process is considered to be in accordance with the Election Commission Act.  As several NLA members agreed with Wallop’s suggestion in order to prevent future litigation, the Assembly resolved to postpone this agenda until further notice.
