BANGKOK, 21 June 2015 – A member of the National Legislative Assembly has called on the public to be more open-minded about a proposal to legalize a casino operation in Thailand.
NLA whip spokesman Jate Sirataranont said that he neither opposes nor supports a proposal by his fellow NLA members to enable casino legalization with the aim being to bring in revenue to boost the economy.
Mr. Jate said that both the people who made the proposal and those who oppose it, have good reasons to support their views.
However, he acknowledges that the idea is controversial and would not likely survive an anti-gambling campaign just as in the past when such a proposal was rejected by society.
Mr. Jate also suggested that there remain several steps for the proposal to go through and even if the National Reform Council were ever to agree to it, implementation would still not be easy.
