The Marine Department has sought cooperation from members of the public not to float their krathongs on the night of Loy Krathong day on next Monday November 14 at five piers along the Chao Phraya river for safety reason.
The five piers are Tha Tien, Tha Sathorn, Tha Wat Muang, Tha Chang and Tha Wang Lang.
Marine Department deputy director-general Mrs Jiraporn Chantharasiri said Sunday that Thai Tien which is used by Chao Phraya express boat service would undergo repairs as of Monday onward. Express boats will instead stop at Wat Pho-Wat Arun pier instead the pier at Tha Tien can resume functional after repairs.
As for the four other piers, she said that they are quite busy and allowing revelers to float krathong on Loy Krathong night would compromise safety and put revelers at risk.
Express and ordinary boat services, however, are operational as normal.
