NONG KHAI, 19 June 2015 -The northeastern province of Nong Khai has recently begun building 20 permanent check dams in Sangkhom District’s Phu Nok Kraba forest area as part of its forest conservation program in 2015.

The program aims to make Phu Nok Kraba forest area a learning center on forest conservation and rehabilitation. Towards that goal, the province concurrently launches five other activities namely construction of an 8-km walkway for trekking and 30-km bushfire barrier, rehabilitation of 200 rai of deteriorated forest, reforestation of watershed areas covering 1,000 rai and erecting 944 integrated-system dams.

These programs aim at creating a network for environmental management cooperation, improving Nong Khai’s eco-tourism scenes, while instilling the awareness of natural conservation into locals. The campaigns would also complement the province’s economic development when the ASEAN Economic Community comes into being very soon.
