BANGKOK, 1 June 2015 – The government has decided to adjust the one-billion-baht investment of the border transport center in Nakhon Phanom province by allowing the private sector to jointly invest in the project from the beginning.

Deputy Government Spokesman Maj.Gen. Sansern Kaeokamnerd on Monday said the latest Cabinet meeting allowed the Department of Land Transport to implement the Nakhon Phanom border transport center worth 1.11 billion baht from the years 2016-2019. However, the Cabinet asked the department to allow the private sector to jointly invest in the project following the prime minister’s comment that joint investment would save the government’s budget.

The department has to make a report containing clear details on the investment ratio and return on investment in line with the Private Investment in State Undertakings Act B.E. 2556 and submit it to the Cabinet again.

The construction site of the border transport center in Nakhon Phanom is at the Thai-Lao border near the third Mekong friendship bridge. The center will distribute products and facilitate goods transport activities from Thailand to Vietnam and the western part of China. It will also act as a one-stop service center for import/export customs clearance formalities in preparation for the development of an economic zone in Nakhon Phanom and connection between road and rail in the future.
