BANGKOK, Thailand – The Thai Meteorological Department has announced that upper Thailand, including the northern and northeastern regions, is experiencing cool weather with strong winds, accompanied by a temperature drop of 1-4°C. Mountain peaks and plateaus are seeing cold to very cold conditions. Meanwhile, heavy rainfall is forecast for the southern region.

A strong northeast monsoon currently dominates the Gulf of Thailand and southern areas. Additionally, a low-pressure cell over the Andaman Sea and eastern Malaysia is intensifying rainfall in the South, with some areas expecting very heavy rain. Residents in affected areas are advised to prepare for potential hazards, including flash floods and runoff, especially in foothills, waterways, and low-lying areas.

The Gulf of Thailand is facing rough sea conditions, with waves reaching 2-3 meters and exceeding 3 meters in stormy areas. The Andaman Sea is experiencing waves about 1 meter high, increasing to over 1 meter in open waters and more than 2 meters during thunderstorms. Mariners in the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea are urged to exercise caution and avoid stormy zones. Small boats in the Gulf are advised to remain ashore. Coastal residents in the eastern South should stay alert to strong waves crashing along the shore.

A high-pressure system from China is also spreading over upper Thailand and the South China Sea, causing initial rainfall in the northern regions before temperatures drop. The northeast will see a decrease of 2-4°C, while other regions will experience a 1-3°C drop. Mountain peaks will be cold to very cold, and plateaus will remain chilly. Residents in these areas are encouraged to protect their health amidst the changing weather.

Air Pollution Update: Dust and haze accumulation in upper Thailand is expected to decrease due to stronger winds and ongoing rainfall during this period. (TNA)
