BANGKOK, Thailand – The Thai Meteorological Department reports that upper northern and northeastern Thailand are experiencing severe cold, while temperatures in the upper regions and southern Thailand are expected to drop slightly with strong winds. Bangkok and its surrounding areas are also seeing cool weather with temperatures ranging from 16-19°C.

The 24-hour forecast indicates cold to very cold weather across Thailand, with freezing conditions in mountain areas. Residents in affected regions are advised to protect their health during the cold spell and be cautious of fire hazards due to dry and windy conditions. The drop in temperature is attributed to a strong high-pressure system and cold air mass covering the country.

In the South, the strong northeast monsoon continues to affect the Gulf of Thailand, resulting in thunderstorms in some areas. The Gulf is experiencing strong waves, with heights of 2-4 meters and over 4 meters in stormy areas, while the Andaman Sea sees waves of 1-2 meters, reaching 2-3 meters offshore. Coastal residents are advised to take precautions against high waves, and mariners are urged to exercise caution, avoid sailing in stormy areas, and refrain from venturing out to sea until January 13.

In Bangkok and surrounding provinces, cool weather with strong winds persists, with temperatures ranging from a low of 16-19°C to a high of 26-31°C.
