UBON RATCHATHANI, 27 July 2015 – The National Reform Council (NRC) committee for the reform of social values, arts, culture, ethics and religion visited Ubon Ratchathani over the weekend to observe the way of life of those living along the Chi River.
Naowarat Phongphaibun, chairperson of the committee, led its members in observing the way of life along the Chi River, which predominantly consists of weaving, basketwork, rice growing and fishing. The committee members also listened to the locals for information. The main purpose of the weekend visit to the plains of the Chi River was to collect information on the conservation and continuation of the local way of life, in order for the information to be used to draft an Act on a national arts and culture council.
The committee also participate in a seminar to collect opinions on the direction of arts and culture reform for the next 10 years, in which emphasis was especially placed on the economic and social significance of the culture found in the plains in Ubon Ratchathani close to waterways.
