BANGKOK, 4 July 2015 – The National Reform Council (NRC) has proposed methods of reforming Thailand’s welfare system and elderly care.

A report was delivered by the NRC committee on social, communities, children, youth, women, elderly, disabled and the underprivileged people reform.

To reform how the country funds welfare and elderly care, the report calls for expanding contributions and disbursements of pension funds, raising the age of retirement and supporting the elderly who choose to remain in the workforce. The report also called for improved accessibility to public facilities and better-equipped elderly care facilities, to better accommodate Thailand’s aging society.

The committee has emphasized the importance of family planning and society’s outlook towards the importance of family support. To improve the well-being of the elderly, the report called for more support for family education in well-being and home care services.
