BANGKOK, 11 December 2014 – The National Reform Council committee in charge of economics and finance has come up with a proposal related to taxpayers that they believe should be included in the new Constitution.
Chairman of the NRC committee on economic and financial reform Somchai Richupan said that the committee has resolved to endorse the proposal that the rights and the duties of taxpayers will be clearly stated in the new charter.
Mr. Somchai explained that, with more clarity in these areas, tax calculation and payment will be more justified and without prejudice.
He added that the committee also has other proposals, including the setting up of a national fiscal and tax policy committee which is represented by the private sector and in charge of analysis and measures to protect the rights of taxpayers.
Other suggestions are such as a new budget bureau under the Parliament to scrutinize government spending, and the drafting of a budget disbursement and revenue law to curb any ruling parties’ exploitation of populist policies for their own gains.
