NRC’s media reform committee believes in people’s rights to get news and press media’s freedom and ethics

BANGKOK, 4 March 2015 – The National Reform Council’s committee on media reform has completed its reform framework that focuses on people’s rights to get news and press media’s freedom and respects for ethics. 

NRC’s member Jumpol Rodkhamdee, who is also the chairman of the committee on media and information technology reform, led a news conference during which he said the committee already presented its reform framework to the NRC President.

Mr. Jumpol said that, under the submitted framework, the committee has emphasize the principle of people’s rights to receive a variety of news in a complete fashion — which will lead to three main reform agendas.

These agendas include the media reform that is based on accountability, the media supervision reform, and the reform on the prevention of media interference, he said.

Mr. Jumpol went on to say that the main objective of the media reform is to elevate Thailand’s press media and information technology to the highest standards for the benefits of the public while being credible in the eyes of the international community.
