Bangkok – The National Security Council of Thailand (NSC) believes the planned demonstration by a pro-election group on May 22 will not be prolonged nor lead to violence.

Gen. Wanlop Rugsanaoh, Secretary-General of the National Security Council says the May demonstration, which will mark four years since Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha and his military government came to power, will be peaceful and won’t drag on, expressing his belief that no one in the nation wishes to resolve differences in a violent fashion, especially when the country is moving towards a general election.

He added that the government will work with the demonstrators to make sure that they express themselves within the confines of the law.

As for the demonstrators’ demand to terminate the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), he said such a demand cannot be met because the NCPO serves as a mechanism to help the government administer the nation and to support security operations.
