BANGKOK, 13 September 2013The National Security Council said it is reviewing the five demands made by the Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) and is setting a date for the next round of peace talks.
The statement came after Hassan Taib, head of the peace talks team for the BRN, claimed that the Thai government had accepted four out of five of the group’s demands.
The NSC said it is considering the legality of the group’s demands which include the acknowledgement of the rights of the “Melayu Patani” people to the “Patani land”.
The agency further announced that the next round of peace talk is expected to take place in October.
The NSC earlier said that during the talk, they planned to question the BRN about a series of insurgent attacks during Ramadan despite a ceasefire agreement. The council would also ask the BRN to stop publicising their peace talk messages and instead convey them through proper channels.
