BANGKOK, Sept 13 — Thailand’s National Security Council (NSC) on Friday asserted that no date has been set for next round of peace dialogue with the Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) militant group, awaiting a decision on its 5-point demand.
NSC advisor Col Charoon Ampa said during the regular press briefing on southern situation at the Defence Ministry that the BRN has officially submitted its written demands to the Thai representatives.
He said the 30-page document was in English and the agencies concerned — particularly the Centre to Mobilise Policy and Strategy to Solve Problems in the Southern Border Province — were studying and analysing the context cautiously.
Col Charoon asserted that if there was no common acceptance of the BRN demands, there would be no setting of a date for the fourth round of peace talks.
He urged the public and media to understand that the representatives are all Thais and were seeking the ways to bring peace to the southern provinces.
They should have confidence in the team that they would do everything for the country, for the Thais as a whole, and to bear in mind that the national interest would come first.
He said the public should not put pressure on the Thai representatives and should not amplify the BRN’s announcement using social media as it is not official.
