BANGKOK, Sept 9 — Thawil Pliensri, secretary-general of Thailand’s National Security Council (NSC), left for Malaysia to discuss arrangements for the next round of peace negotiation with southern insurgency movements with his Malaysian counterpart.

He expected a clearer peace talks framework after the upcoming Thai and Malaysian prime ministers’ meeting.

Before his departure, Mr Thawil said that Prime Minister Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha assigned his delegation to arrange for resuming the peace process with Malaysia, which agreed to maintain its role as facilitator.

He will discuss details of the matter before Gen Prayuth visits Malaysia and meets Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak.

The NSC secretary-general said the list of negotiators would be clear after the prime ministers meeting.

Gen Prayuth supported peace-oriented negotiations, Mr Thawil she said and was ready to create understanding with all groups, so Malaysia could propose insurgency groups to the negotiation.

Mr Thawil already proposed Thai negotiators to Gen Prayuth who will then decide who will head the Thai peace talks delegation.

The situation in the southern border provinces is improving regarding the numbers of violent incidents and casualties, he said.

However, Deputy Army Chief Gen Udomdej Sitabutr ordered better protection and services for local residents as insurgents usually tried to launch attacks during the time of Buddhist traditions this month.
