BANGKOK, 30 July 2014- The Office of Basic Education Commission (OBEC) is preparing to install more than 8,000 CCTV cameras in schools in the South.
According to the Office, to provide additional security for the students and school staff, CCTVs will be installed in about 1,000 schools in the 3 southernmost provinces and 4 districts in Songkla Province; 443 among which are currently deemed to have been exposed to separatists’ violent attacks.The Office expected the installation to be completed in two weeks’ time.
Meanwhile, the Deep South Watch of Prince of Songkla University, Pattani Campus, has released its annual report on violent incidents occurring during the holy month of Ramadan in the provinces of Yala, Pattani, and Narathiwat, indicating that 77 incidents were reported this year, a slight decrease from last year’s figure of 86; however, the number of casualties rose from 134 reported last year to 158 this year.
