BANGKOK, 20 May 2014 – The Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC) assured the public that educational institutions will not be affected by the invocation of martial law in the country.
The agency said no additional precautions are being taken following the army’s announcement early on Tuesday morning.
OBEC noted, however, that schools situated close to protest sites at Ratcha Damnoen Road and the Government House have postponed the start of their new semester due to security concerns. Some of the schools that were affected by ongoing protests include Satri Witthaya, Bovornnivet, and Rajavinit schools.
If the situation in the capital returns to normal, schools can open their doors to students again within this week.
