BANGKOK – The Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB) has called on department stores to make sure that their New Year gift baskets contain good quality products, in accordance with regulatory standards.
The Prime Minister’s Office Minister, Tewan Liptapallop, chaired a meeting of the OCPB on Wednesday (Nov 27) to discuss several issues, such as personal loans for consumers and temples collecting high rental fees from vendors while selling sacred objects to foreign tourists at extortionate prices.
The meeting discussed an agreement between the OCPB and 21 retailers designed to ensure that items contained in the New Year gift baskets are not substandard. Prime Minister’s Office Minister Tewan said the OCPB has to collaborate with retail stores to make sure that the baskets contain good quality products at appropriate prices. The baskets will also include a message “Unsatisfied Customers Can Exchange or Return This Basket”.
In addition, the meeting acknowledged a report on the content of an official Line account jointly managed by the OCPB and local administrative organizations. This Line account will help publicize news and information related to consumer protection. Mr. Tewan assigned the OCPB to work with the Ministry of Interior to obtain all relevant information from local administrative organizations nationwide and publish it through the Line account.
The Prime Minister’s Office Minister also instructed the OCPB to cooperate with the Department of Consular Affairs, the Royal Thai Police and the Ministry of Public Health to integrate their operations in the crackdown on illegal electronic cigarettes and baraku, while raising awareness of the dangers of e-cigarettes and vaping products.
