BANGKOK –The Office of Women’s Affairs and Family Development (OWF) held a seminar on human trafficking watch, urging the media to help fight the problems with inclusive and creative reporting.
The seminar held at Princeton Park Suite Hotel, Bangkok, and attended by representatives from varied agencies which have contributed to solving Thailand’s human trafficking problems in the face of the current ranking of the country at Tier 3 on the United States’ Trafficking In Persons (TIP) Report since 2014.
OWF deputy director general Wanpen Suwanvisit revealed that the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security has coordinated with the police and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to improve the system for identifying and classifying human-trafficking victims.
The deputy director general urged the media to make news reports on such developments as the authorities’ attempts to suppress human trafficking as well as the rehabilitation subsequently provided for the victims.
Meanwhile, Pol Lt Col Komsan Gunha, chief of the Anti-Human Trafficking Division, said the police have seriously launched missions against human trafficking, resulting in the arrests and prosecutions of some government officials allegedly involved in the crime.
He also called on the media to make inclusive news reports for the sake of fairness to those who have devoted themselves to fixing the chronic problems.
