One killed, five wounded in Narathiwat roadside bombing

NARATHIWAT, Jan 21 – A volunteer ranger was killed, with five others wounded in two roadside bomb blasts in the southernmost province of Narathiwat this morning.

Insurgents detonated a homemade bomb on a Ban Bango Kubo village roadside in Narathiwat’s Rangae district Tuesday morning. Volunteer ranger Adam Yusoh, 21, was killed by the blast.

The other three injured rangers, identified as Weerayuth Klajongying, Kiatiporn Raksaphol and Suhaiming Jehmeng, were sent to Ra Ngae Hospital and have since been transferred to Narathiwat Ratchanakarin Hospital.

Police said a bomb was built in a 20 kg gas cylinder and planted at the roadside. It was detonated by a radio signal.

Meanwhile, another explosion targeted a teacher protection unit in Narathiwat’s Sri Sakhon district, wounding two volunteer rangers, identified as Sofian Areejaesoh and Abduloh Salae.  Both are now hospitalised at Sungai Kolok Hospital.
