Bangkok – The Office of the National Water Resources (ONWR) has prepared a response plan to tackle drought in Thailand this year.

The ONWR Secretary-General, Somkiat Prajamwong, said Thailand will officially enter summer in late February, and the season will last until mid-May.

Temperatures in northern Thailand will be higher than last year, while the amount of rainfall will be lower than usual by 20 to 30 percent. This may result in an increased loss of water in the system and water sources.

The ONWR has asked all relevant agencies to strictly control water allocation in accordance with the plan and discourage farmers from growing crops during the dry season.
