The police commission meeting, chaired by caretaker Prime Minister Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha on Friday has withdrawn the appointment of the new police chief from consideration.
It was previously speculated that the high-level meeting at the Royal Thai Police headquarters would endorse the new police chief to replace Pol Gen Damrongsak Kittiprapas, who will retire on Sept 30.
Pol Lt Gen Archayon Kraithong, spokesman for the national police said after the meeting that outgoing prime minister Gen Prayuth decided to withdraw the appointment of the new police chief from consideration and would let the incoming government to do the task in accordance with the ethical principles after the royal command officially appointed Srettha Thavisin as the new prime minister.
Regarding the appointment of high ranking officials from deputy chief to commander level, the current national police chief will act as the chairman to make the decision.
Asked if Pol. Gen. Torsak Sukvimol, whose name had been speculated will be selected to become to the new national police chief, the police spokesperson declined to respond to the inquiry. Following the meeting, Prime Minister General Prayuth immediately departed without giving any interviews to the media. (TNA)
