BANGKOK – The Ministry of Public Health is accelerating its efforts to combat dengue fever, after more than 8,000 cases were reported in the past two months.
Permanent Secretary for Public Health Sopon Mekthon reported on the data released by the Bureau of Epidemiology. In the past two months, a total of 8,651 people were infected with dengue fever, resulting in one death. The number is two higher than the same period last year. This year’s infection rate is on course to being as severe as in 2013, which recorded more than 150,000 infected.
The ministry has instructed all hospitals to be thorough in diagnosing the disease, while ordering public health agencies to inform the public on how to destroy mosquito breeding grounds around homes, schools, and workplaces. The ministry recommends that the public clear these places of mosquito breeding grounds every week.
