Police arrested 12 Danish nationals at midnight on the 14th of September because they were simply enjoying playing a game of cards.
This took place in a restaurant on soi Buakhao, the men were drunk and having something of a party until the police arrived and confiscated two decks of cards and two score pads before escorting the men to the chonburi police station as that is where the police officers were from.
The playing cards were taken as evidence before the police realized there was no case against the card players.
Upon arrival at the police station statements were taken, it was then that the police realized that the group were not playing for money, therefore were not gambling and therefore had not broken any laws.
In time, they were released after their details had been taken and apparently they were given a warning but perhaps the police in this case should be giving themselves a warning and think themselves lucky that the foreigners didn’t make a complaint about police harassment.
