A test run for the new cross-border rail service linking Bangkok to Vientiane was successfully conducted on Saturday (July 13), paving the way for the official launch of passenger services this coming Friday (July 19). The trial journey, which started at Nong Khai Railway Station and concluded at Vientiane Station in Laos, included attendees such as Nong Khai Governor Sompob Samitasiri and representatives from various government bodies, private entities, and tourism businesses.
The service, which has been accepting bookings since July 10, will make its inaugural commercial journey from Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal Station in Bangkok to Vientiane this Friday. Departing at 9.25 p.m., the train will travel overnight, reaching its destination by 9.05 a.m. the following morning.
Travelers have a range of ticket options for the overnight journey, with prices varying by comfort level: 281 baht for a third-class fan seat, 574 baht for a second-class air-conditioned seat, 784 baht for a second-class upper bed with air conditioning, and 874 baht for a more spacious second-class lower bed with air conditioning. Those boarding from intermediate stations along the route will benefit from reduced fares.
Passengers can book their seats up to 180 days in advance at any railway station across Thailand. Upon arriving in Vientiane, travelers will have the opportunity to visit local attractions or continue their journey aboard the high-speed China-Laos railway, which connects to other provinces in Laos and extends into China.
