A Banglamung police officer lost his gun to thieves who stopped to pilfer his pockets, not render aid, after he crashed his motorbike.
Sgt. Maj. Thanapat Srisakset was taken to Bangkok Hospital Pattaya around 2 a.m. Sunday after smashing his pink Yamaha Mio into a statue at the corner of Sukhumvit Soi 27 in Naklua.
Chainarong Munasurin, a security guard working nearby, said he heard the crash and saw Thanapat lying face down in the street when two Thai men on a motorbike stopped. He thought they were helping the injured officer, but saw them flee once they heard sirens approaching.
The police officer’s motorcycle lies on the ground following the crash.
Medics and police who arrived at the scene discovered Thanapat’s service revolver was missing. Police are now reviewing nearby CCTV footage to try and identify the two men.
