BANGKOK, 30 June 2015 -The Royal Thai Police have insisted that Thailand’s system of passport checks is in line with the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
The Deputy Royal Thai Police Chief, Police General Wut Lipatapallop and Immigration Police Chief Police Lieutenant General Sakda Cheunpakdi have demonstrated to the media how a traveler’s passport is checked by Immigration.
They claimed that the procedure is recognized by the ICAO and is also the same as the system used worldwide. It consists of examining and feeling the texture of a passport, conducting a UV scan and using a magnifying glass to prove its authenticity.
The Deputy Police Chief added that most of those caught using fake passports were from Vietnam and Iran. He further stated that it is important for immigration officers to be able to effectively identify whether a passport is genuine, if Thailand is to lead ASEAN in terms of preventing illegal entry.
