BANGKOK, Thailand – The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rain across the southern region of Thailand from November 27–30, which may lead to flash floods and runoff in several areas. Meanwhile, northern Thailand will see rising temperatures accompanied by morning fog.
Weather Overview
The 24-hour weather forecast indicates that a weakening high-pressure system over northern Thailand and the South China Sea will lead to slightly warmer temperatures and morning fog in upper Thailand. However, the northern and northeastern regions will remain cool in the mornings. The public is advised to maintain health precautions and exercise caution when traveling in foggy areas.
In the south, the prevailing moderate to strong northeast monsoon over the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea will bring heavy to very heavy rainfall in the lower southern region. Residents are urged to stay vigilant for potential flooding, particularly in hilly areas, near waterways, and low-lying regions.
Marine Conditions
Waves in the lower Gulf of Thailand are expected to reach heights of 2–3 meters, with over 3-meter waves in stormy areas. Upper Gulf waves will rise to about 2 meters, and the Andaman Sea will see waves of 1–2 meters. Mariners are advised to proceed with caution, especially in areas with thunderstorms, and small boats in the lower Gulf should avoid venturing out to sea during this period.
Additional Factors
From November 27–30, the northeast monsoon over the Gulf of Thailand and southern Thailand is forecasted to intensify, compounded by a strong low-pressure system moving from the lower South China Sea across the lower Gulf of Thailand and Malaysia into the lower Andaman Sea. This system will contribute to further heavy rainfall in southern Thailand.
