BANGKOK, 27 May 2014  – People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) leader Suthep Thaugsuban has been released with a bail of 100,000 baht.

Mr. Suthep, along with 25 other PDRC core members, was released from army custody and was right away escorted to the Attorney General’s office where he was summoned to hear charges of treason and insurrection relating to the protests he had led since last November. However, all of the PDRC members have been released with a bail of 100,000 baht each.

Mr. Suthep and his fellow PDRC members had been detained by the military since last Thursday when the army decided to seize power in order to restore peace and prevent bloodshed in the country.

About 200 politicians, activists, academics and journalists have been summoned by the coup makers since Thursday, of whom at least 150 have been detained.
