BANGKOK, April 21 — Permanent Secretary for Public Health Narong Sahametapat was working this morning as usual after his home was attacked by an M-79 grenade shortly after midnight.
Police said the grenade struck the wall of his home in Chaeng Wattana Soi 14 at around 12.30am.
The explosion caused a 10-15 cm hole in the wall. His car parked inside was slightly damaged but no one was injured.
At the time of the blast, Dr Narong was not at home.
He told reporters this morning that he was fine and would work as usual. He was scheduled to go on a duty trip in Prachuap Khiri Khan province.
Declining to answer whether he would ask for security personnel for safety, Dr Narong earlier welcomed the anti-government protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban, the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) secretary-general, to his office and accepted a golden whistle from Mr Suthep on behalf of the ministry.
He also defied a Centre for the Administration of Peace and Order (CAPO) order by ignoring its request that he attend a briefing organised by the centre.
