PHANG NGA- The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office in Phang Nga province held a seminar entitled “Pang Nga, the Safety City” at Baan Nam Khem Tsunami Memorial Park in Takua Pa district.
Phang Nga provincial governor Phakaphong Tavipatana said the seminar sought to promote knowledge management which conforms with academic standards and is based on knowledge and information technology. Such management could help members of the public and organizations prepare themselves for Tsunami-related disasters, he added.
Kuntarin Rosjanasurasri, chief of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation’s Pang Nga Office, stated that the integrated knowledge will create a comprehensive safety awareness among members of the public in time of Tsunami incidents and boost confidence in the readiness for safety measures on the part of both the Thais and foreigners.
Maitree Jongkraijak, Baan Nam Khem Network coordinator, pointed out that community-based volunteers could become main factor in the making of Phang Nga as a safety city and in effectively responding to natural disasters.
After the academic session was finished, members of Baan Nam Khem community demonstrated methods of handling maritime disasters.
