BANGKOK, 28 March 2014  Two people have died of the 2009 influenza (H1N1) in Phitsanulok province since the beginning of this year, prompting the province’s major hospital to actively campaign for H1N1 prevention.

Officers from the Disease Control Office Region 9 in Phitsanulok and Phutthachinnarat Hospital are working together to raise awareness on the H1N1 flu among the general public. Deputy Director of Phutthachinnarat Hospital MD Suchart Phorncharoenphong said the 2009 flu patients had been found in many provinces since the beginning of 2004. Although the infection rate had not increased much, the fatality rate had significantly risen, in part due to wrong diagnoses and treatments, MD Suchart said.

This year’s national death toll from H1N2 is 18 people in Thailand.

The doctor also suggested physicians give anti-virus drugs to flu patients sooner since their symptoms might develop into severe pneumonia.
