Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat spearheaded a large-scale clean-up operation in the province on Monday (July 1), following severe flash flooding triggered by heavy rains. The clean-up targeted the Kamala area in Kathu district, one of the locations most severely affected by the floods.
Governor Sophon was joined by scores of local figures, including the provincial police chief, the director of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Area 18, representatives from the Third Naval Area, and various government agencies and foundations. The team employed bulldozers to clear mud from roads, and water trucks subsequently cleaned the areas.
The officials also distributed essential supplies to residents impacted by the floods. While the floodwaters have receded in many areas, Kasattree and Ban Don subdistricts remain waterlogged. Approximately 50 residents have sought temporary shelter in a local school, with plans to return home today (July 2).
Sophon has sought help from the Royal Irrigation Department to set up water pumps to clear the remaining water to restore complete access to all roads. He affirmed that the ongoing efforts are expected to resolve the flooding issues by tomorrow (June 3), allowing life in the affected communities to return to normalcy. (NNT)
