BANGKOK, 6 June 2012 – The Prime Minister has expressed her worries over the corruption situation in Thailand, which is hindering the country’s development and asked all sides to fight against it.

During an exhibition and seminar on drug eradication strategy, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said Thailand scored only 3.4 out of 10 points and ranked 78th in the world on anti-corruption activities. According to her, corruption is a cycle deep-rooted in the society and she does not want to see the practice as the Thai culture.

The Premier said there should be no bribery, particularly position-buying practices, in any organizations, while those who work hard should be rewarded. She said the problem was not for any particular department to tackle but for everyone to work together to eradicate the mammoth corruption problems in Thailand.
