Saraburi – The Prime Minister has ordered local administrative offices to persuade farmers to cut down on field burning at this time due to the air pollution situation impacting much of the central region.

Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-ocha pointed out that the high particulate matter concentration affecting Thailand is a global phenomenon and is not exclusive to the Kingdom. He explained that it is the result of various factors including the weather and traffic.

The PM discovered that crop burning was still taking place during a helicopter trip from Saraburi back to Bangkok and has ordered local administrators to explain to farmers that they must reduce such practices at this time. Coordination with neighboring nations has also been initiated to further remedy the problem.
