BANGKOK, 2 August 2015 – Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has expressed concerns over heavy rains caused by the monsoon trough in the northern and the upper northeastern regions. The PM instructed provincial officials to stay vigilant and prepare to issue warnings of natural disasters.

Deputy Government Spokesman Maj.Gen. Sansern Kaeokamnerd said the PM’s concerns were based on the forecasts of the southeastern monsoon and monsoon trough which might cause thunderstorms, heavy rains and flash floods in some areas. Gen. Prayut therefore instructed the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, the Ministry of Interior and provincial units to be on standby 24 hours and promptly warn people of possible natural disasters.
